Dating a gibson acoustic guitar
Serial numbers show approximate date of manufacture.Since all the instruments using this serial number pattern were acoustic or semi-hollow the labels were located inside the instrument body.Gibson introduced a new pattern when they began producing solid body guitars.Unfortunately, the numbers were in no particular order. 1970 also saw the end of the orange labels on the inside of hollowbodies and acoustics.
New white and orange rectangular labels were designed for acoustics and smaller black/purple and white labels for hollow body electrics.
